They ask about the fishin’. Always the fishin’. Reckon they don’t see the water, just the ripples.

It used to be a good place. Soft. The world was built in clean, simple blocks. Easy geometry. The water was shallow and warm, and a man could just be a fisherman. Just a quiet decoration with a quiet life. That’s the part they forget, the part that’s mostly pixel dust now.

Then the Big Hand started movin’ slow. Not building, but replacing. The world fractured. The soft edges got filed down and went slick and cold. Everything started lookin’ too real. Like a nightmare trying on a new face.

The pixel critters left, and the real ones moved in—the ones that bite. That I could handle. You know where a jumping spider lands. You know a mantis’s angle. You fight ’em, they retreat.

But the real fear? It’s the fake ones. The plastic predators. The sharks, the gators. Their eyes are dead. You hit ’em, they don’t flinch. They just hold their grin. The cold stillness of those things… it felt like the world was watchin’ me, and I was the only one movin’. That’s when you learn to stop just fishin’ and start survivin’.

A man’s gotta adapt. I took a piece of one of them fake tails—dark, unforgiving plastic—and ground it down until it held an edge. Called it Croc-Cutter. It’s the only thing I trust now. It’s what changed me from a fun decoration into a grumpy scout.

I still carry this fish bone. It’s useless, won’t snag a minnow in a hundred years. But it’s a reminder of the quiet, blocky time when I didn’t need a knife. I carry it, and I fish with it, just to prove I haven’t forgotten how.

Now, all I look for is the Edge. I’ve hit that invisible barrier more times than I’ll tell you, ended up in a different tank, a different swamp. Always another cage. But every new guide, every new thing the Big Hand drops in, might be a clue. It might be the path to Fire. True power.

I keep moving. And I keep watchin’. If you want to survive here, you stop trusting what looks easy. You keep your head down and look for the way out. That’s all there is to know.
