Aquarium Fish Portal Set

Elevate your aquarium’s feeding experience and cleanliness with our Fish Portal Feeding Ring collection! This premium file grants you access to a bundle of 9 different functional shapes (Rectangle, Circle, Heart, and more) to suit any tank size or aesthetic. Starting with the highly versatile Rectangle Fish Portal, this design is engineered to solve a common problem: containing floating foods.

It creates a dedicated, calm surface area for your fish to eat, preventing food from scattering into your filter intake or settling into your planted substrate. This is an essential, easy-to-print accessory that reduces waste, enhances water quality, and makes feeding time a breeze, especially in high-flow or heavily planted aquariums.

Recommended Settings

⚙️ Recommended Print Settings

Successfully printing this aquatic accessory is straightforward. We highly recommend using a water-resistant filament for long-term safety and durability in your aquarium.

Filament & Material

  • Recommendation: PETG, ABS, or ASA.

  • Notes: PETG, ABS, or ASA is highly recommended for longevity in water due to moisture resistance. Standard PLA can be used, but may degrade over time or may require a food-safe resin coating for long-term submersion.

Layer Height

  • Recommendation: 0.2 mm.

  • Notes: A standard layer height for a great balance of detail, strength, and print time.

Slicer Settings

  • Infill Density: 0%. This print does not require infill.

  • Top Shell Layers: 0. Very important, as this will make the floaters hollow with an open bottom.
  • Wall/Perimeter Count: 2-3. Use a higher count (3) to ensure the floating ring is completely sealed, waterproof, and more robust.

  • Nozzle Temperature: Material Specific. Follow your filament manufacturer’s guidance (e.g., PETG: 235-250°C / PLA: 200-220°C).

Adhesion & Supports

  • Supports: None. Designed to print without supports on a standard FDM printer. Print the model flat on the build plate.

  • Brim/Raft: None. A small 5mm brim may be beneficial only if you experience bed adhesion issues, particularly with PETG.

Slicing Note

  • Scaleable: The files are pre-sized for optimal use. Scale them to your desired need.

Important: Always thoroughly clean your final print before placing it in an aquarium. Avoid using metal-filled or abrasive filaments. For long-term use, ensure your chosen material is chemically stable in water.

Assembly & Installation

🔩 Assembly & Installation

Since this design is intended to be printed as a single, functional piece, assembly is very minimal.

Printing and Installation

  1. Print Orientation: Print the design with the open side facing up on the build plate. This minimizes or eliminates the need for supports.

  2. Installation Orientation: After cleaning, place the ring in the aquarium with the open side facing down. This traps an air pocket, allowing the ring to float.
