Set sail for adventure in your own tank with the Floating Aquarium Pirate Ship Model! This classic, multi-part set includes the main Hull and separate Sails. The detailed hull is designed for minimal support printing, and the sails print completely flat, making the process straightforward.

To ensure buoyancy, the hull must be hollowed and sealed, and the final assembly simply requires gluing the sails into the pre-set slots. This is a rewarding project perfect for both Resin (SLA) and FDM printers, resulting in a timeless, floating centerpiece.

⚙️ Recommended Print Settings

This is a multi-part print where buoyancy and structural integrity are key.

FDM/Filament Settings (Recommended for Structure)

Material: PETG or ABS (Highly recommended for durability and water resistance).
Layer Height: 0.2 mm.
Infill Density: 0% or 5%. The model must be mostly hollow to float.
Wall/Perimeter Count (Hull): 4-5. Necessary for structural rigidity and a watertight exterior.
Supports: Minimal supports are required for the hull (primarily near the bow/stern); None for the sails (print flat).

SLA/Resin Settings (Recommended for Detail)

Material: Standard UV Resin (Grey, Brown, or specialty colored).
Layer Height: 0.05 mm or finer.
Orientation (Hull): Print the hull right-side up. Supports are minimal for the exterior, but must be placed on the hull’s overhangs.
Orientation (Sails): Print flat on the build plate.
Preparation (MANDATORY): Requires hollowing of the hull and a drainage hole.

Important: Always thoroughly clean your final print before placing it in an aquarium. Avoid using metal-filled or abrasive filaments. For long-term use, ensure your chosen material is chemically stable in water.

Assembly & Installation

🛠️ Preparation & Post-Processing Steps

This project requires careful hollowing and assembly with aquarium-safe glue.

Slicer Preparation (Hull)

To ensure material savings and guaranteed buoyancy, you must use your slicer software to:

Hollow the main Hull component.
Add a drainage hole to the hull (ideally on the bottom) to allow uncured resin to escape.
Hull Supports: Only minimal supports are required for the hull.

Sealing Drainage Holes (Resin Hull Only)

After washing and initial curing, the drainage hole MUST be sealed to prevent water ingress. Use a small dab of liquid UV resin and cure it instantly with a UV light/pen to plug the hole.

Assembly (Glue Required)

Preparation: Print the Hull and the Sails. Clean all parts thoroughly.
Sails: Glue the sails into the pre-set holes in the ship’s mast/deck.
Curing: Let the assembled model cure for at least 24 hours before introducing it to water.

Cleaning (CRITICAL)

Before placing the model in your tank, wash it thoroughly to remove all residues (including any super glue residue). A final thorough water rinse is highly recommended.

📦 Required External Tools

Aquarium-Safe Super Glue (Cyanoacrylate): MANDATORY for attaching the sails to the hull.
Liquid UV Resin and Small UV Light/Pen: Required to seal the drainage hole (Resin Hull only).
